Quebec Bill 62

On October 18 2017, the National Assembly of Québec adopted the Bill 62 An Act to foster adherence to State religious neutrality and, in particular to provide a framework for request for accommodations on religious grounds in certain bodies. Article 10 of that law states that a person providing or requesting government services must have their face uncovered when the service is provided. Articles 11 and 12 state that religious accommodations can be granted in the application of article 10 and that the Minister will establish guidelines for dealing with such requests. The guidelines have not been published yet.

Since this topic has been the object of much public debate, the TRAC executive choose to ask the General assembly whether it believes the Union should have an official position on the matter and if so, what that position should be. We invite members to inform themselves about this topic in the manner they deem appropriate. The English version of the law can also be found here.
